The Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (AANFE) sub-sector established under LAW 1 of 1993 addresses the education needs of children, youths and adults with respect to those who did not have the opportunity of acquiring formal education. Those who for one reason or the other dropped out of school have also been mainstreamed into academic pursuit through variousprogrammes of the agency. The Agency co-ordinates the Adult and Non-formal education activities in 6 education zones and the 21 LGAs. Facilitators are used for teaching in the market schools and learning centres.
All the activities of the agency are geared towards realizing Gov. Willie Obiano’s strategic objective in the education sector, which is to ensure that the learning needs of all are met, through equitable distribution of resources and to make Anambra State one of the three top states with the lowest illiteracy rate. Among the major achievements of Gov. Obiano in this sub-sector are:
- Most regular and timely payment of facilitators monthly stipends to all our educational zones.
- Provision of fund which was used to address the issues of mobilization, community dialogue, sensitization and advocacy of out-of-school children and illiterate adults at various markets and densely populated areas, on the importance of enlisting and benefiting from our numerous learning Centres. This has resulted to increased enrollment.
